Question: If RPA's the next big thing, why haven't I heard more about it?
Answer: RPA is in wide use among large corporations, service providers in particular. Ernst and Young for example, utilizes RPA to automate many of its core business functions, and credits the technology with a several-hundred-thousand-dollar annual savings.
Question: What's the difference between RPA and macros and scripting?
Answer: We get asked this question frequently. Without getting overly technical, macros and scripts are programming. They are short sequences of code written to perform a single task, or a series of tasks. While a macro or script is linear and fixed, RPA robots are dynamic. They can “learn” and respond to stimuli, accumulating knowledge of procedures over time – thereby getting “smarter.”Another major difference is that RPA is autonomous of the application. Where you might need multiple scripting tools to create scripts to perform in your various applications, RPA can interact with multiple applications at once at the object layer. It can be applied to virtually any application, and multiple applications at a time. If you’d like to know more about the differences, UiPath provides an excellent article on the topic.

Question: Is Robotic Automation competitive with BPMS?
Answer:
No, Robotic automation extends and complements BPMS and SOA initiatives which are attacking the automation challenge from a different, top down, IT driven angle.
Robotic automation is aimed at small-to-mid size automation initiatives. Where speed and size and agility are major factors, then robotic automation is often the fastest and most efficient approach. When larger initiatives are required with a fuller “Business Process” character then BPMS may be better suited.
Question: If an environment changes and an automated task doesn't work, then what?
Answer: If there’s any “hot button” issue with IT, it’s that of change, and how systems that are brought in can handle and keep up with it. When it comes to back end systems changing, automation software is ready to respond in several ways. First of all, robust automation software has error-handling mechanisms built-in, to catch these issues when they arise. It’s very easy to build logic into the system for scenarios when you want the system to react in a certain way. When systems and environments change, automation software also makes it possible to edit scripts easily without having to re-write them or re-record automated tasks.
